GHL: Trigger Charlie (Tag, form or FB lead form)
Last updated: December 9, 2025
This guide explains three methods for automatically triggering Charlie AI to engage with leads in GoHighLevel (GHL). You can activate Charlie when someone submits a native GHL form, when a specific tag is applied to a contact, or when someone fills out a Facebook lead form.
Triggering Charlie
Prerequisites:
Form Setup (for Method 1) - An existing GHL form embedded on your opt-in page or lead collection point
Tag Configuration (for Method 2) - Knowledge of which tags you want to use for triggering Charlie
Facebook Integration (for Method 3) - Facebook account connected to GHL via Settings > Integrations, with an active Facebook lead form created
TIP: Use native GHL forms for direct website submissions, tag-based triggers for workflow-driven engagement, and Facebook lead forms when running paid social campaigns. This will help you to achieve greater results.
Step by step guide
Method 1: via a Native GHL Form
Create or Locate a Form in GHL:
Navigate to the Sites section in GHL.
Go to Forms and then Builder to either create a new form or use an existing one.
Make sure the form is already embedded on your opt-in page or wherever you are collecting submissions.
Set Up the Trigger in Charlie:
Once the form is ready, go to the specific Charlie AI use case where you want to trigger Charlie.
Action: Inside the use case, go to Triggers and type in Form Submitted.
Configure the Form Trigger:
Add Filters: Select the form you want to use to trigger Charlie.
Choose Form is and select the specific form from the list.
Save the Trigger: Click Save Trigger and then Save to finalize the settings.
Method 2: via a Tag
Set Up the Tag:
If you want to trigger Charlie when a tag is added to a contact, go to the Charlie AI use case where you want to set up the tag-based trigger.
Configure the Tag Trigger:
Action: Go to Triggers and type in Tag Contact.
Add Filters: Choose Tag Added, then select the specific tag you want to use to trigger Charlie.
Save the Trigger: Click Save Trigger and then Save.
Method 3: Via Facebook Lead Form
Pre-Integration Setup:
Before you can use Facebook lead forms, make sure your Facebook account is connected to GHL.
Action: Go to Settings > Integrations, and ensure your Facebook account is connected.
Set Up Facebook Lead Form Integration:
After your Facebook account is connected, make sure your Facebook lead form is ready.
In GHL, go to Settings > Integrations, and under Facebook Form Field Mapping, find the lead form you created in Facebook.
Map the Fields:
Action: Click on Map Fields for the form.
Map the fields as follows:
Email → Email
Full Name → Full Name
Phone Number → Phone Number (or whichever fields you're using).
Set Up the Trigger for the Facebook Lead Form:
After mapping, go back to your Charlie AI use case.
Action: Go to Triggers, type in Facebook Lead Form Submitted.
Configure the Trigger:
Add Filters: Select the Facebook lead form you want to use.
Choose the form from the list and configure the trigger.
Save the Trigger: Click Save Trigger and then Save.
Final Notes:
Form Integration: This method can be used with any GHL form or a Facebook lead form, depending on your setup.
Tag Integration: Tag-based triggers are ideal if you want Charlie to start interacting with contacts when specific tags are applied.
Facebook Lead Forms: Ensure that your Facebook lead form fields are correctly mapped to ensure Charlie has the information needed to follow up with leads.
By following these steps, you can successfully trigger Charlie AI using a GHL form, tag, or Facebook lead form, allowing for automated follow-ups and lead engagement.
